Mission & Program

The Harvard Academy for International and Area Studies is dedicated to increasing our knowledge of the culture, history, and institutions of the world's major regions and countries.

OUR PROGRAMS

• Academy Scholars Program (Open to All)
  The Academy Scholars Program offers 2-year research support for advanced doctoral and post-doctoral scholars in the social sciences, history and law working in non-Western areas of the world. These are open to scholars of all nationalities. Those in possession of a PhD longer than 3 years are ineligible.
• Academy Graduate Fellows Program (Harvard Graduate Students)
  The Academy Graduate Fellows Program offers a dissertation completion year at the Academy for Harvard University GSAS doctoral students in the social sciences and history working in non-Western cultures or regions.

The Academy's premise is that the scholarly world needs individuals who combine thorough disciplinary and area specialization, and the Academy Scholars Program was established to facilitate this goal. The Academy also organizes seminars and conferences, and supports Harvard faculty research.
