Undergraduate Research Assistants to Fellows

The Weatherhead Center Fellows Program accepts applications from Harvard sophomores, juniors, and seniors for positions as paid research assistants to Fellows. The Fellows are senior-level international affairs practitioners, including diplomats, politicians, military officers, journalists, civil servants, and nongovernmental organization officials.

Financial Compensation

Students are paid on an hourly basis for service as a Fellow’s research assistant. Please contact the Fellows Program to inquire about payment.

Who is Eligible?

Harvard College sophomores, juniors, and seniors who have an interest in working with the Center’s senior-level international affairs practitioners are eligible to apply.

Terms

Accepted students may spend up to five hours per week assisting a Fellow with various tasks such as conducting library and online research, summarizing and analyzing research materials, and proofreading and editing written work.

How to Apply

Applicants should furnish the following:

  1. a brief cover letter stating interest in participating in this program;
  2. a resume, including academic accomplishments, previous research experience, and language skills;
  3. an official Harvard College transcript;
  4. one letter of reference from someone who knows the applicant well, preferably a faculty member or graduate student.

Deadline

Applications for each academic year must be submitted by November 1st, but earlier applications are encouraged. The Fellows Program may assign research assistants by mid-October to those Fellows who are ready to begin their research early in the academic year.
