Weatherhead Center Launches New Program on Transatlantic Relations

The Weatherhead Center has established a new program on transatlantic relations to strengthen research and teaching on transatlantic and European issues at the Weatherhead Center and the University. This effort is possible owing to a generous donation by Pierre Keller (Fellow, 1979–1980), who has established an endowment for a visiting professorship and has committed operational funds to the program for its first five years. The Weatherhead Center’s Executive Committee appointed Karl Kaiser, who is also an adjunct professor at the John F. Kennedy School of Government and a Straus Fellow at the Weatherhead Center, as the program’s first director. He is supported by an advisory committee consisting of representatives of the Weatherhead Center, the Center for European Studies, and the Harvard Kennedy School.

Steven Levitsky has earned tenure at Harvard. Levitsky, who currently holds a prestigious John L. Loeb associate professorship in the social sciences, is being tenured in the Department of Government. He also has an appointment on the Committee on Degrees in Social Studies. Levitsky’s teaching and mentorship is held in great esteem among students and the news of his tenure spread quickly around campus, according to the student-run Harvard Crimson. In 2004, he was awarded the Roslyn Abramson Award for outstanding undergraduate teaching. He is the director of the Weatherhead Center’s Graduate Student Program.
