The Transatlantic Relations Seminar focuses on the United States and Europe with a special emphasis on members of the EU and NATO. The transatlantic relationship has been the bedrock of post–World War II international affairs and now faces serious challenges in the environment of both post–September 11 and globalization. The seminar, in coordination with the Weatherhead Center’s U.S. Foreign Policy Seminar, addresses critical issues in U.S.-European relations. Last year’s speakers included Ambassador Klau Scharioth (Germany), Brigadier General Antonello Vitale (Italy), and Governor Mats Hellstroem (Sweden). The seminar is co-chaired by Richard Cooper, Maurits C. Boas Professor of International Economics, and Karl Kaiser, former director of the German Council on Foreign Relations and Ralph I. Straus Fellow at the John F. Kennedy School of Government and the Weatherhead Center.
