Research project: North-South Agreements around the Pacific Rim: A Comparative View of Japanese Free Trade Areas (FTA)

Professor Manger earned his M.Sc. in Political Science from the University of Hamburg and his Ph.D. in Political Science from the University of British Columbia. He is currently an Assistant Professor of Political Science at McGill University. His research interests focus on international political economy, international relations of East Asia, and Japanese political economy. His publications include "Competition and Bilateralism in Trade Policy: The Case of Japan's Free Trade Agreements" in the Review of International Political Economy. While at Harvard, Professor Manger plans to complete his book manuscript, titled Competitive Liberalization: North-South Free Trade Areas around the Pacific Rim.

Research project: Engendering Strategic Voting: Women Voters in Contemporary Japan

Professor Martin earned her A.B. in Politics from Princeton University and her Ph.D. in Political Science from the University of Michigan. She is currently an Assistant Professor in the Department of Government and the Program in Feminist, Gender and Sexuality Studies at Cornell University. Her publications include: "Alienated, Independent, and Female: Lessons from the Japanese Electorate" (Social Science Japan Journal), "Keeping Women in Their Place? Spousal Influence, Vote, Choice and Changing Marital Dynamics in Japan" (Journal of Women, Politics & Policy), and a forthcoming co-edited book, Democratic Reform in Japan: Assessing the Impact (Lynne Rienner Publishers). At Harvard, Professor Martin plans to complete her book manuscript, entitled Engendering Strategic Voting: Women Voters in Contemporary Japan.
