#  The Shanghai Conference on Africa and China

**This conference is open to the public.**

The Shanghai Conference on Africa and China is a major component of a broader initiative that seeks to expand the knowledge base around key topics in contemporary African-Chinese relations. Scholars from a range of disciplines and professions at Harvard will engage with counterparts from Chinese and African institutions in Shanghai to define the current state-of-the-art of knowledge on this critical sub-theme, and chart a research agenda that will lead to a follow-up conference in Johannesburg, South Africa. Conference outputs include special issues in relevant journals; policy briefs to be posted on the respective websites of the collaborating institutions; ongoing faculty roundtables at Harvard that continue the discussions on key issues that emerge in the conferences; and the possibility of a co-taught interdisciplinary course on China and Africa.
